The Bill Spill
Virginia SB 731
Senate Bill 731 was introduced to the Senate in January by Senator Tara Durant. The bill proposes to make AI-generated child pornography against the law. It alters the specifications of what constitutes the production, sale, publication, and financing of child pornography and reevaluates the definition of child pornography. The bill seeks penalties for sexually explicit visuals that depict sexual conduct even if the minor in the material does not exist. The bill was recently signed by Governor Youngkin and will take effect on July 1, 2024.
