Nine Growers Take on Facial Fuzz to Support Fairfax CASA

In recent years, an increasing number of children have entered the child welfare system. As a result, Fairfax CASA has continually maintained a waitlist of children in need of an advocate–a trusted adult who provides consistent support both in and out of the courtroom.

To ensure no child stands alone, nine members of the Fairfax community chose to forgo shaving for Fairfax CASA’s second annual Facial Fuzz campaign. Each participant embarked on a very fuzzy journey to raise awareness and funds in support of child advocacy.  Four returning Facial Fuzz growers from last year joined again for round two. And five new participants signed on for the challenge–including the Unofficial Mayor of Mason, Fairfax CASA’s newest board member, and a local law enforcement officer.

Together, these incredible men have raised over $3,800 in just three weeks. And their journey isn’t over yet—there are still a couple of days left in the campaign. Read more about some of this year’s growers and why they chose to help advocacy grow through Facial Fuzz.

Meet the Fuzzy Faces Behind the Campaign

Meet Fairfax CASA’s newest board member, Mark Hogsett! Growing his beard for the first time, he’s excited to support children served by CASA.

I’m supporting Fairfax CASA because every child deserves a voice, stability, and hope during the most difficult moments of their life. CASA volunteers stand beside children navigating the court system, ensuring their best interests are heard and protected.

Co-Founder and CTO of Meadow, Pietro returns for another round of growing out the fuzz.

I wanted to come back to help fundraise for Fairfax CASA because they help so many children that have been abused or neglected in our community.

Joining the campaign for the first time, Kyle, a local law enforcement officer, is often the first to respond to situations that lead children into the system.

As a police officer, I come across many kids in tough situations. Being able to help any kid in need is why I’m passionate about this campaign.

Supporting the campaign from the Mason community is Philip Wilkerson, better known as the “Unofficial Mayor of Mason.”

As a father, no child should be abused. All children deserve safety, support, caring, and love. I also want to support a program organized by a GMU alum doing great work in the community!

Marine Corps veteran and George Mason senior Christopher, normally always clean shaven, grows out the fuzz to support child advocacy for the first time.

I’m doing what I can to support at-risk children, and I’m grateful to be able to do that through Facial Fuzz for Fairfax CASA.

Patrick, Director of Ambulatory Alliances and Partners, joins the campaign for his first year!

Besides the added advantage of not having to shave for a month, I strongly believe in the CASA mission that every child deserves to be seen, heard, and supported.  I was further inspired by my wife’s involvement on the CASA board — seeing firsthand how this mission changes lives. This playful fundraiser turns fuzz into hope, and I’m proud to grow fuzz for a cause that gives kids a voice in court.

Help our growers finish strong and ensure every child’s voice is heard with a gift to their campaign pages.
