Heroes on the Greenway
In this year’s Run the Greenway race, more than 2,000 community members laced up to support local Northern Virginia charities. Braving the Greenway, these local heroes demonstrated what it means to be a force for good.
As Iron Man once said, “Heroes are made by the paths they choose, not the powers they are graced with.”
Run the Greenway is more than a race – it’s an opportunity to create impact by bringing together community members and charities to address the growing needs within our region. Since its inception, the race has raised more than $1.4 million to support participating nonprofits.
This year marked Fairfax CASA’s fifth year with Run the Greenway. When we called for superheroes, our community answered. Thanks to the support of our volunteers, donors, runners, and sponsors, we raised a grand total of $71,480 and won several prize incentives along the way.

Thank you for showing up and being a hero when it mattered most. Every step taken was one less step a child had to take alone. Because being a hero isn’t about special gifts or powers – it’s about the impact you make in your community.
To our volunteers, donors, runners, and business partners: thank you for being our heroes.
